Improve English Listening | 1 Great Method
My students always say to me:
“Rory, it’s so difficult to understand native English speakers when they talk. How on earth can I improve my listening skills?”
For sure, listening is one of the hardest parts of learning a language.
BUT, there are ways you can improve your listening skills and in my opinion, one of the best ways is with audio books.
We are so lucky that the internet and technology has developed so much that we can now fall asleep listening to native speakers reading to us and we don’t even need to pay!
That’s right, most of these resources are completely FREE!
There are loads of audio books on youtube, but I recommend checking out Amazon Audible because there are so many books you can choose from and you even get a 30 day free trial!
I then recommend listening to Sherlock Holmes read by Stephen Fry.
Stephen Fry has a traditional British accent like myself and he even went to school a few miles away from me!
I really hope you find these resources valuable…if you want to improve your speaking and pronunciation skills, listen to a passage, then repeat the words you hear while recording yourself. Then listen back to your recording and compare yourself with Stephen (or another native English reader).
